The warning listed on our website is in accordance with a law implemented by the state of California called Proposition-65. Under this regulation, California law requires businesses to provide warnings for products containing chemicals that the state of California has identified as carcinogens or reproductive toxins. Recent amendments to this law require any retailers selling to California residents to list this warning on their website.

There are currently almost 1,000 substances on the Proposition-65 list, ranging from cigarette smoke and asbestos to aspirin and wood dust. One of the materials listed is lead, and because most light fixtures contain brass in the sockets or in the frames of the shades, we are required to put this warning label on our light fixtures. Brass is a metal alloy consisting of copper, zinc and small amounts of lead, which is what triggers the “lead” warning under California Proposition-65 since lead has been shown to cause cancer when it is ingested.

  1. Totally changed the kitchen

    The lights were gorgeous, and easy to install. They really are statement pieces, and I think they walk the line between something more traditional or more modern, depending on how you style the rest of the room. We used them in our kitchen with 8' tall ceilings and they feel just right over the island, especially with the clear shades that don't block your line of sight. I was impressed with the quality of the glass over similar looking items at common home improvement stores. However, we did buy two pendants that sit next to each other and are the seeded glass variety. We love the organic look, however one shade is significantly less seeded than the other. We thought we could deal with it, but we will be contacting customer service to see if there's any way we could get a replacement shade. We don't have a preference as to more or less seeded, but we wish they were slightly more similar looking. Anyway, something to consider if you're buying multiple shades of seeded glass that will be next to each other.

    This fixture is absolutely perfect for my new kitchen. Everyone gasps when they see it. Fits with my transitional/traditional home. It arrived quickly and well packaged. Highly recommend!

  4. I ordered two of these

    I ordered two of these for my island pendant lights. One arrived and looked perfect. The other has a chip in the dome. I’m disappointed with the lack of timeliness in regards to the exchange. I had to email a photo of the dome and have waited days to hear back about getting a new one sent to me. I’m hoping that Shades of Light customer service gets in contact with me very soon.
