The light filters out through the strings for a unique effect. If you prefer a pleated shade, let us know and we will add to the web site. The harp on the lamp is set up to take a 10" deep shade. If you want to use the <a href="http://www.shadesoflight.com/_search.php?page=1&q=LS08077" rel="nofollow">LS08077</a> shade, let us know to include an extra harp in a shorter size for you. The shade will then look perfectly proportioned to the lamp. I would not recommend going smaller than a 12" diameter bottom of a shade on this lamp. The floor lamp is solid brass in a lovely oiled-rubbed bronze with high quality construction. It does have a 3-way socket and will take 100 watts as long as the shade you select can handle that (it can go higher with a bigger shade).
