Where: Floor lamps can be used in any room. Try two to frame your entrance door in your foyer. They illuminate dark corners, provide great reading light, or can add the perfect decorative accent to a room.
Size: Some floor lamps are adjustable in height, allowing the reader to position the shade to his or her advantage. Select a floor lamp height so that the bottom of the shade falls at the eye level of the user.
Style: Floor lamps offer a very versatile lighting source. As a result of the wide variety of sizes and shapes of floor lamps available, they can also be selected purely for their decorative contribution to the space. Torchieres (lamps with upside down shades) provide an interesting alternative by focusing intense light up to illuminate the ceiling and architectural features or flood a dark corner with softer reflected light.
Wattage: Look for floor lamps with 3-way sockets to allow you to change your lighting levels for different activities.
Placement: For reading, floor lamps should be used behind or to the side of a sofa or chair, casting light directly on the work area. Floor lamps are most effective when glare is reduced by placing the bottom of the lampshade at the reader’s eye level.
Shades: The bottom of the shade should be at the eye level of the user.
I am very interested in your Designer Swing Arm Floor Lamp (FL09002ba bz.) However, can’t decide on a shade. You suggested L508097. However, I do like L508077 which looks pleated a little. Is that so?
Also like the Linen-L506044 but it may be too small? I do want to be sure to cover the bulb area.
Also does this floor lamp have a 3-way socket or does it only use 1-100 watt?
Please advise. Thank you.

Caroline,
Thanks for your inquiry. Actually, any of the shades in our swing arm lamp shade category will work. The LS08077 is actually made of thin silk string which is beautiful both lit and unlit. The light filters out through the strings for a unique effect. If you prefer a pleated shade, let us know and we will add to the web site. The harp on the lamp is set up to take a 10″ deep shade. If you want to use the LS08077 shade, let us know to include an extra harp in a shorter size for you. The shade will then look perfectly proportioned to the lamp. I would not recommend going smaller than a 12″ diameter bottom of a shade on this lamp.
The floor lamp is solid brass in a lovely oiled-rubbed bronze with high quality construction. It does have a 3-way socket and will take 100 watts as long as the shade you select can handle that (it can go higher with a bigger shade). The LAMP SHADE is ALWAYS the determining factor in wattage in a lamp.
