Mary McDonald Lighting…Saw it, Loved it, Bought it!

My newest addiction is Bravo’s latest hit show Million Dollar Decorators. The show is funny, visually inspiring, and has all the quirky elements of a hit reality show! I am in love!!

My favorite part of the show and why I am so addicted, Mary McDonald. A famous designer in the heart of LA, Mary is extraordinarily talented and fashionable. All of her designs are rich and glamorous. As she put it on the show, “Glamour sticks to her”. She is not only fun to watch and be inspired by but I am most excited because I was able to meet her at the Fall 2010 High Point market where she debuted her new lighting collection.

I fell in love with the lighting collection by Mary McDonald immediately, before I even knew it was her collection! The colors and finishes as well as the fluid lines and glamorous elements were not to be matched! It was the most exciting line I saw at the show!

Mary was kind enough to have a meet and greet at market and it was the highlight of the week!

After the Transformation Part II

How lucky to be coming out of a major structural renovation on our house to have such a great choice of products for our house from our cover shoots for Summer 2010.

As you can see our bath off of the  main room was screaming for a “makeover” and our design team rallied!

Started the project choosing Reclaimed Pickled Wood Side Board and worked the room around this charming piece.

Teamed up with husband Dave to choose the sink with hardware & the lighting fixture; sure he wanted bronze & I wanted nickel but aside from that ( and you see who won….) must say pretty smooth sailing as these things go!

Found the green filigree wallpaper & had to have it; really complimented the new cabinet & I love the feeling it gives the room.

Wall Sconce Guidelines

Where: Sconces are perfect as a framing device for French doors, mantels, mirrors and paintings, so they are equally at home in the living room, dining room, and bedroom. They add decorative interest while lighting up artwork and other eye-level details.

Size: Sconces should be scaled to complement the size of the room as well as the mirror or painting or doorway between them.

Style: Sconces can add elegance, whimsy, sparkle, interest, and beauty to your walls. Wall sconces are an often-overlooked solution for brightening dark spaces. Compact but decorative, they add just enough extra light to complement other lighting sources. Wall sconces can also be used to light a hallway or any dark area with no space for a table or floor lamp. They are often the forgotten alternative for bath lighting, placed on either side or above the mirror.

Placement: Wall sconces should always be hung so the light shines at eye level. When an electrical box is not available or practical to install, sconces can be converted to plug-ins.

Shades: Small shades or shields will help to avoid glare and soften the lighting effect, as will a dimmer.
