Weathered Woods

“Respected, mature, confident, having gracefully aged to the point where they make everyone around feel comfortable and at ease.”  Are we describing a beloved Hollywood icon or admired elder statesman?  No, we are talking about “weathered woods,” a mainstay in many of today’s home decor styles.  Weathered woods with reflections of a past life (even if they aren’t necessarily old) are “worn” wood gems, treasured for their complex finishes and their solid wood construction. This “lighter” look is replacing dark-stained traditional designs:

Remarkably adaptable, these aged woods are a natural choice for coastal homes and updated lodge looks. However, these softly-weathered woods are bursting into urban and suburban decors, since they effortless blend with virtually any color scheme, and work well with natural and minimalist decors as well. The raw yet sophisticated look of weathered wood creates a nice contrast for today’s tile floors and upholstered furniture. From console tables to sconces, table lamps and chandeliers, weathered wood accents continue to increase in popularity.  The relaxed quality of weathered woods adds familiar warmth, distinctive character and fit quite comfortably into rooms that otherwise might appear stale or stark. A chandelier in a weathered wood look can be a great choice for a great room or 2 story foyer light.

Whether your style is industrial, coastal or vintage shabby, weathered woods give interiors depth and interest. Add a few crystals or other luxurious elements and these weathered woods evolve into the chic Rustic Luxe look. Weathered woods are a joy to work with, since they can be added to existing decors and their finish ensures that they will look like time-honored favorites from day one, as these woods blend seamlessly into existing decors.  Here is a collection of some of our favorite weathered woods, view these for inspiration.
